Location: Queens, New York
This stunning arched entry door in Queens had served its home faithfully for over 100 years, but time and weather had taken their toll. The original wood door showed extensive damage with peeling paint, exposed raw wood, failing finishes, and structural deterioration that threatened both its beauty and function. The threshold transition had deteriorated beyond repair, and the hardware needed complete replacement to restore security and style.
Rather than replacing this architectural treasure with a modern substitute, we committed to a complete restoration that would honor the home’s century of history. The project required meticulous craftsmanship: we fabricated custom curved metal framing to support and stabilize the arched door structure, then applied multiple layers of marine-grade epoxy and premium wood filler to rebuild damaged sections and create a smooth, durable surface. Each application was carefully sanded and shaped to match the door’s original profile and preserve its historic character.
We custom-milled a beautiful red oak threshold to replace the worn transition, ensuring a perfect fit to the curved entryway and providing a warm, welcoming step into the home. New period-appropriate hardware—including a modern smart lock system seamlessly integrated with classic styling—completed the transformation. The door was finished in a rich, deep green that complements the home’s brick façade while providing maximum weather protection for the next hundred years.
