Restoration project on Park Ave

One of our signature restoration projects was performed on Park Ave during 2016.

Originally this brownstone apartment had beautiful moldings, center piece medallions and plasterwork on the ceilings and walls. With time passing with no repairs to damages from numerous earthquakes and construction projects around the building this outstanding art work got seriously damaged – large parts of crown moldings and center medallions fell down. Apparently damaged parts were never reproduced.

As it happened quite frequently in recent past, previous owners of the apartment – most likely from 70ies or 80ies – decided to save money needed for extensive repairs and covered walls and ceilings with drywall. As you can see on the picture below they lowered the ceiling so that entire crown molding with original ceilings and center pieces got covered under new “ceiling”, which substantially reduced height of the walls and removed all the beauty from the apartment.

Plaster walls also were covered with drywall making rooms even smaller and unattractive.

Current owners kindly invited us to remove all the coverings and to repair the damage to give the apartment its original magnificent look.

Below we will try to show the process of repairs, broken down to several sub projects to demonstrate how each part of the damage was repaired:

1 Park Ave plaster ceiling restoration

2 Medallion restoration and reduplicating of lost part

3 Restoration of falling old plaster crown molding
